Biography
Matthias Hafner is the Director of the Center of Cryptoeconomics and Head Blockchain and Cryptoassets at Swiss Economics. He focuses on projects related to blockchain applications, token economics and competition. Matthias has led numerous projects and supported various startups, corporates, and decision-makers. In addition, Matthias is a mentor for startups of CV VC, a researcher at the University of Zurich, and an advisor to multiple blockchain projects. Before joining the Center for Cryptoeconomics, Matthias worked for the Swiss Competition Commission.

- Protocol Design Support for Havven (Synthetix) (2018 – 2019). Havven, rebranded as Synthetix, is a decentralized payment network enabling cryptocurrency purchases.
- Solving the Incentive Problem of the News Market with Spot (2018 – 2019). The incentives on the online news market got misaligned with the rise of search engines and online advertisements. In many cases, online news publishers are remunerated solely by online ad distributors. The value of news articles are therefore signaled by clicks.
